Hotel Chain Orders AI-Powered Security Tower for Parking Lot Monitoring

Robotic Assistance Devices (RAD) has received its first major hospitality order for an autonomous security tower designed to address parking lot incidents and loitering. The unnamed hotel brand plans to deploy the RIO 360 unit at one property, with expansion to additional locations already under discussion.

The client initially sought traditional security guards for exterior areas but rejected the approach as too costly. The property's parking facilities and access points faced persistent loitering and unwanted activity. RAD's tower offered an alternative that could deploy quickly without requiring on-site power infrastructure.

Troy McCanna, Chief Revenue and Chief Security Officer at RAD, said the order signals a broader opening in hospitality. "Once a location engages, the conversation quickly expands to additional coverage and even additional properties," he said.

Why Hotels Are Turning to Autonomous Security

Hospitality properties face a specific security problem: exterior spaces must remain accessible and welcoming to guests while deterring unauthorized activity. Labor costs for traditional security personnel have made this balance increasingly difficult.

The RIO 360 provides visible deterrence and real-time monitoring without the ongoing expense and variability of human staff. Properties can deploy it faster than hiring and training guards, and the solution scales across multiple locations within a brand.

The market opportunity extends across urban hotels, airport properties, and resorts - all environments where parking facilities and access points require consistent monitoring. Steve Reinharz, CEO of AITX and RAD, said the hospitality segment represents a substantial addressable market across North America.

The Sales Path Forward

The order originated from a web-based inquiry, not a traditional sales channel. This suggests hospitality operators are actively searching for alternatives to conventional guarding models.

RAD claims its solutions deliver cost savings of 35% to 80% compared to traditional manned security. The company maintains a sales pipeline that includes over 35 Fortune 500 companies across industries including transportation, critical infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

The initial deployment is one unit. The client's interest in expanding at the same property and introducing RAD to affiliated locations indicates the vendor expects the engagement to grow into a recurring revenue relationship.
