How Salesforce and Stripe Integrate AI Commerce Protocol

October 27, 2025

Salesforce and Stripe are connecting Salesforce's Agentforce Commerce with Stripe's payment rails through the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP). This is the first partnership between a commerce platform and payments infrastructure since ACP's launch, aimed at enabling purchases initiated by AI agents inside ChatGPT and other conversational interfaces.

The core idea: shoppers tell an AI what they want, the agent finds it, and the transaction completes without a traditional cart. The integration makes that flow possible for merchants running on Salesforce, with Stripe handling authentication, fraud checks, and settlement.

What changed

Merchants on Agentforce Commerce can now process AI-initiated purchases through their existing Stripe setup. No separate build for each AI channel. No new payments integration.

The ACP sets a common standard for connecting inventory and checkout systems with AI platforms. That removes the need to build and maintain one-off pipes to each assistant or app consumers use.

How Stripe Link handles AI checkouts

Transactions prompted by AI agents run through the same infrastructure used by Salesforce Payments, which operates on Stripe. Multiple payment methods are supported, including Stripe Link-the consumer wallet that stores payment and shipping details for faster checkout.

For merchants, it's the same backend stack with a new front door. The consumer experience shifts from forms to a conversation; the payments flow remains familiar and auditable.

Why it matters for sales, IT, and development teams

Salesforce research shows 48% of consumers who already use AI for shopping would let an agent complete a purchase on their behalf. That points to real demand, even if adoption curves are still unclear.

"Through our collaboration with Stripe and OpenAI on the ACP, we are delivering the unified system designed for the future of agentic commerce, creating a dramatically faster and more personalised path to purchase," says Nitin Mangtani, General Manager of Commerce Cloud and Retail at Salesforce.

"We're excited to partner with Salesforce to help merchants using Agentforce Commerce thrive in the agentic commerce era," says Maia Josebachvili, Chief Revenue Officer of AI at Stripe. "Together with OpenAI, we're enabling businesses to reach millions of new buyers by helping turn discovery into purchase inside ChatGPT."

How Salesforce reaches ChatGPT users

With ACP, product discovery and purchases can happen inside ChatGPT without sending users to a merchant's site. That reduces steps and keeps attention where the conversation is happening.

Consumer comfort is the main question: will people trust a chatbot to buy on their behalf? Early signals are promising, but behavior will take time to settle.

ACP, in plain terms

ACP provides technical standards so AI agents can browse catalog data, check availability, and submit orders using a consistent interface. It tackles interoperability so merchants don't have to ship custom integrations for each AI platform.

Stripe's infrastructure addresses the different demands of conversational commerce-identity checks, consent capture, authentication, and fraud models that don't depend on web forms.

Guided Shopping on your own site

Salesforce also introduced Guided Shopping for Agentforce Commerce. Retailers can deploy AI agents on their own domains, connected to Salesforce Customer 360 across marketing, service, orders, and data.

"This fundamental shift empowers our merchants to drive revenue growth and build deeper customer loyalty across a platform where shoppers already reside," Nitin says.

What to do next (practical steps)

  • Prep your catalog: clean titles, descriptions, pricing, inventory, and attributes so agents can parse them. Structured data wins.
  • Enable Link and preferred payment methods in Stripe. Verify authentication flows (e.g., 3DS) and test tokenized payments end to end.
  • Define agent guardrails: spending caps, restricted categories, returns/exchanges, and consent prompts.
  • Tune fraud controls for conversational orders. Tag the channel and adjust risk scoring and review rules.
  • Run sandbox tests via Agentforce Commerce with ACP: discovery, add-to-order, payment, webhooks, receipts, and refunds.
  • Set up attribution: track AI-mediated conversions, AOV, repeat rate, and chargebacks by channel.
  • Update support playbooks for agent-placed orders. Train reps on new order metadata and dispute processes.
  • For developers: implement idempotent order creation, handle inventory reservations, and subscribe to payment and fulfillment webhooks.

Open questions to watch

  • Trust and consent UX for one-shot purchases vs. approvals per order.
  • How dispute and refund rates compare to web checkout.
  • Attribution clarity across discovery in chat vs. fulfillment in existing systems.
  • Privacy controls for data shared with AI platforms.
