Samsung Electronics opens recruitment for 9th C-Lab Outside startup cohort

Samsung Electronics is opening applications for the 9th cohort of its C-Lab Outside startup acceleration program, seeking 30 Korea-based companies at Series B or earlier. The initiative, running from June 15 to June 26, offers selected startups direct access to Samsung's business units for technology verification and proof-of-concept testing, bridging the gap between early-stage development and market scale.

Program scope and selection

Samsung will select the 30 startups across eight sectors, including AI, robotics, digital health, and IoT. The recruitment spans Seoul, Daegu, North Gyeongsang, and Gwangju, with final selections announced in November. Selected companies receive expert consulting in areas like technology and AI for Product Development, helping them refine their offerings before market launch.

Real-world technology verification

The program emphasizes concrete collaboration over abstract funding. In last year's 7th cohort, 17 of the 30 selected corporations executed technology verification projects directly with Samsung divisions. Current 8th-cohort members are already advancing joint initiatives.

Config Intelligence, for example, uses its Human Data Factory platform to build physical AI training data. It is currently working with Samsung to secure the data needed for robots to perceive their surroundings and perform human-like tasks. Similarly, Exarion is discussing proof-of-concept testing for its immersive 3D audio and AI video-processing semiconductor IP.

Resources and market access

Beyond technical validation, Samsung provides up to 1 billion won in business support funds, dedicated office space, and free transfers or licenses for its patents. The company also sponsors startup participation in major global exhibitions like CES and VivaTech. For engineers building these early prototypes, understanding the broader ecosystem is vital, making resources like an AI Learning Path for Research & Development Engineers a practical parallel to Samsung's hands-on mentorship.

Lee Byung-chul, head of the Samsung Electronics Creativity and Development Center, said, "For startups, not only technological prowess but also opportunities to validate it and scale into the market are crucial." He added, "We will provide diverse collaboration opportunities so promising corporations can step onto a larger stage."

Why this matters for product developers

Product developers often struggle to transition prototypes from controlled environments to real-world validation. Samsung's C-Lab Outside program demonstrates how large tech firms are actively sourcing external AI and robotics solutions for proof-of-concept testing. For professionals building early-stage hardware or software, securing a partnership that provides both technical validation and access to enterprise-grade training data can accelerate the path from concept to commercial deployment.
