Samsung SDS to Deploy 175 AI Agents Across Woori Bank Operations

Samsung SDS has been selected to build and deploy more than 175 AI agents across Woori Bank's core operations, marking the banking sector's first large-scale implementation of this technology. The project will connect multiple internal systems and handle end-to-end tasks using large language models.

Woori Bank plans to roll out AI agents across 29 core tasks in five areas: customer relationship management and corporate lending, wealth management, internal controls, customer service, and workflow automation. The bank expects the deployment to improve operational efficiency and task processing speed by roughly 30 percent.

Rollout Timeline and Scope

Samsung SDS will begin the project in May, deploying approximately 90 AI agents by December. The company will complete the full rollout by August next year.

The initiative relies on Samsung SDS's proprietary AI agent platform FabriX. The company will build a multi-model environment to support AI adoption across different tasks and integrate the agents into Woori Bank's existing legacy systems.

Infrastructure Modernization

Samsung SDS also secured separate contracts for Woori Bank's IT infrastructure upgrades. The work involves migrating the bank's unix-based systems to linux, which improves interoperability and cloud scalability while maintaining stable operations.

The infrastructure project covers both core and channel systems, addressing the bank's long-term operational needs alongside the AI agent deployment.

What This Means for Operations Teams

For operations leaders, this project illustrates how AI agents can reshape workflow design rather than simply augment existing processes. Woori Bank is redesigning its work processes around the agents, not fitting agents into current structures-a distinction that affects how teams will need to adapt.

The 30 percent efficiency target suggests measurable performance gains, though actual results will depend on how thoroughly the bank restructures its operations.
