Seth Rogen: Writers Using AI Should Find Another Job
Actor and writer Seth Rogen said writers who turn to ChatGPT and similar tools aren't cut out for the profession. In an interview with Brut, Rogen dismissed AI-generated content as inferior to human work and questioned why anyone would treat the two as equivalent.
"Most of the AI slop I've seen online is stupid dog s***," Rogen said. He argued that if a writer's instinct is to use AI to write anything, they shouldn't be a writer at all.
Rogen emphasized that the writing process itself matters as much as the final product. A true writer for AI should actually enjoy the work, he said.
Industry Takes Divergent Paths
Hollywood's response to AI remains split. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently announced that AI-generated actors and screenplays won't qualify for Oscar consideration.
Other figures in entertainment take a different stance. Tyler Perry said in 2024 he'd consider using AI, and Reese Witherspoon urged people to adopt the technology before it becomes standard practice.
Rogen's position reflects a broader tension in creative fields about whether AI tools enhance or undermine the craft itself.
