Tajikistan Adopts 2040 AI Strategy, Pushes for Regional Cooperation
Tajikistan has adopted a national artificial intelligence development strategy through 2040, with plans to apply AI across public administration, healthcare, agriculture, environmental protection, and information security.
Khurshed Mirzo, director of the Agency for Innovation and Digital Technologies, announced the strategy at the Fifth Meeting of Ministers of Information and Communication Technologies for Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states.
Regional Framework Proposed
Mirzo proposed three concrete steps for SCO cooperation: establishing a registry of best practices in IT and AI, developing a coordinated legal framework for AI regulation, and improving digital connectivity between regional data centers.
The proposals reflect Tajikistan's position as a hub for regional AI development. IT Park Dushanbe currently offers tax incentives, modern infrastructure, and training programs for startups and technology companies.
Efficiency Gains and Regional Center
Officials said AI could increase public sector efficiency and reduce operating costs by 2030. An international AI forum held alongside the ministerial meeting emphasized AI's role in digital economic growth and public service delivery.
Tajikistan is advancing a United Nations General Assembly resolution on AI's role in sustainable development across Central Asia, which calls for a regional AI center in Dushanbe.
The country has also committed to expanding cooperation on digitalization and innovation with other SCO members. Learn more about AI for IT & Development to understand how these strategies apply to your work.
