Kazakhstan wins WHO pharmaceutical recognition, discusses AI in healthcare with health agency chief
Kazakhstan achieved WHO Level 3 maturity in pharmaceutical regulation, the organization's highest standard for drug control systems, during talks between President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on April 23.
The designation makes Kazakhstan the first country in the Commonwealth of Independent States and the fourth in the WHO's European region to reach this level. The recognition confirms the reliability of Kazakhstan's national drug control system.
The two leaders discussed how to expand cooperation on AI for Healthcare and digital transformation in medical systems. They also reviewed joint AI Research Courses opportunities linking climate and health initiatives.
Tokayev said collaboration with the WHO had entered a new phase and thanked the organization for supporting Kazakhstan's global health agenda.
Ghebreyesus praised Kazakhstan's economic growth and constitutional reforms. He also commended the country's work on environmental and water security at regional and international levels.
The WHO chief attended the meeting after accepting an invitation to the Regional Ecological Summit 2026.
