The University of Rhode Island will host a workshop July 14-16 for K-12 educators on AI basics, classroom use, and ethics. Over 150 teachers from 30+ districts will attend.

URI to Host Statewide Workshop on AI for K-12 Educators
KINGSTON, R.I. – The University of Rhode Island will hold its second annual professional development workshop focused on artificial intelligence (AI) in K-12 education from July 14-16. This event will gather over 150 teachers and administrators from more than 30 school districts across Rhode Island.

Workshop Focus and Activities
The workshop aims to equip educators with foundational knowledge of AI, its classroom applications, and ethical considerations. Participants will engage in hands-on activities, explore AI tools, and develop strategies to integrate AI into their curriculum in age-appropriate and inclusive ways.
“By building a strong foundation in AI for educators, we’re helping ensure that students learn to use AI effectively and responsibly,” said Vic Fay-Wolfe, computer science professor and director of URI’s K-12 Computer Science Education Program.

URI’s K-12 Computer Science Education program works with the Rhode Island Department of Education and the Computer Science Teaching Association (R.I. Chapter) to offer training and curriculum support. These partnerships help schools implement AI learning that is equitable and practical.
