Zain Group recently hosted a focused three-day ‘Data and AI’ workshop in Amman, Jordan, collaborating with Cloudera and ZainTECH. This event brought together data and technology professionals from Zain’s eight markets across the Middle East and Africa. The goal was clear: to explore practical applications of artificial intelligence and data strategies that enhance business performance and customer experience.
The workshop directly supports Zain’s ‘4WARD-Progress with Purpose’ strategy, concentrating on two main pillars—‘Customer Delight’ and ‘Digital Zain’. These focus areas are critical for improving operational efficiency and delivering better customer interactions.
Collaboration Drives Practical Outcomes
Mohammad Al-Marshed, Zain Group’s Chief Technology Officer, highlighted AI’s role in transforming industries by enabling precise and swift data analysis. He noted that the forum enabled teams to align on AI’s potential and develop strategies with Cloudera and ZainTECH for effective deployment and monetisation.
The first day featured keynote sessions and demonstrations of Cloudera’s AI tools and models, providing insight into current industry trends. On day two, participants engaged in a Datathon, working in teams to create real-world AI use cases under time constraints.
From Concept to Deployment in 48 Hours
The Datathon concluded with teams presenting their solutions to a judging panel. The winning group successfully developed a full business use case using Cloudera Agent Studio—from concept through to demonstration and deployment—in just 48 hours. This practical exercise showcased how AI initiatives can be rapidly prototyped and tested within enterprise environments.
During the event, Zain’s Strategy executives unveiled the company’s Data and AI strategy, a core element of the ‘4WARD-Progress with Purpose’ framework. This strategy emphasizes pragmatic AI adoption to improve business outcomes.
AI Enhances Customer Experience and Operations
Zain utilises Cloudera’s hybrid platform as the backbone for its data, analytics, and AI capabilities. This platform supports secure and scalable solutions that improve network performance, predict equipment failures, and personalise customer services. These improvements translate into reduced costs and less downtime.
The Data Office, in close collaboration with ZainTECH, has also advanced data governance practices and standardised frameworks. Their work promotes data literacy across the organisation, ensuring that AI-driven services focus squarely on customer needs.
