AI agent for surgeons

Blood Availability Planning Agent

Make sure the right blood products are ready before each case.

Blood Availability Planning Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

A case can be delayed when blood is not ready, and teams find out at the last minute. When a case is booked, this agent reads the planned procedure and the patient's risk, such as anemia, anticoagulants and past transfusion needs. It estimates the expected blood need using the team's own guide, requests the crossmatch and checks stock with the blood bank. It rechecks near the date. If the blood bank cannot supply the planned units, it flags the case and proposes options such as changing the date, ordering from another site or adjusting the plan. The surgeon approves each step. Edge case: the patient has antibodies and needs special matching, so the agent flags longer lead time.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

An example run

What happensA scheduled hip revision was estimated at 2 units. The blood bank had one compatible unit. The check failed and the agent flagged the case with options: request from a second site or move the date. The surgeon chose the second site. At 48 hours the agent rechecked and both units were allocated.
