Preoperative Readiness Agent

Surgeons lose operating time when a case is cancelled on the morning because a lab, a clearance or a consent is missing. Before surgery a patient may need labs, an ECG, medical or cardiology clearance, a plan for stopping blood thinners, signed consent and fasting instructions. Each week this agent reads the coming surgical list, works out the required items from the procedure and the patient's risk factors, and checks each chart. It flags what is missing, ranks high-risk patients first, and drafts requests to other clinicians and reminders to patients for the surgeon or scheduler to approve. Forty-eight hours before surgery it checks the chart again. If a gap remains, it escalates and lists the options: chase, delay or reschedule. Clinical decisions always stay with the surgeon. Edge case: blood thinner stop dates are confirmed with the prescriber rather than assumed from a standard rule.
