AI agent for actors
Scene Study Beat Rehearsal Agent
A beat plan with clear objectives that fit the text and hold up in a read-through
What it does
Beats and objectives are worked out in the head and never tested against the lines. This agent breaks the scene into beats and asks the actor for an objective and a tactic for each beat. It tests each choice against the text for contradictions, such as an objective of 'comfort her' with a line that insults her. It runs a read-through where it plays the partner, then logs where the actor stumbled, rushed or lost the objective. Then it reworks the beat plan with the actor and runs the read-through again. It stops when the actor has no stumbles on the key beats or the time is up. The actor approves the final choices. Edge case: a beat with a long silence is kept as its own beat and timed.
How it works
Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.
Read the steps as a list
- Scene work begins
- Break the scene into beats
- Ask the actor for an objective and a tactic for each beat
- Test each choice against the lines for contradictions
- Does every objective fit the lines in its beat?If not: show the conflict and ask for a revised objective. Back to step 3.
- Run a read-through with the agent as the scene partner
- Log stumbles, rushes and lost objectives by beat
- Are the key beats free of stumbles? If not: rework the beat plan with the actor and read again. Back to step 5.
- Actor approves the final choicesThe agent waits here for your OK.
- Final beat plan and rehearsal notes
How it decides
A choice is kept when it fits every line of its beat. A beat is flagged when the actor stumbles on it twice.
- Flag a choice that contradicts a line
- Mark a beat after two stumbles
- Keep long silences as beats
- Limit rehearsal to the time set
