Songwriting Split and Registration Agent

Every song has a signed split totaling 100 percent and a registration record that matches it

Songwriting Split and Registration Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

A song is released, streams start and then two writers disagree about who owns what, and nobody has registered the song. This agent reads the split agreement for each song and checks that every writer's share is stated and that the shares add up to 100 percent for both the composition and the master where applicable. It prepares the registration data for the rights organization, including titles, writer names, shares, identifiers and publisher details, and flags missing information. After the writer submits, it rechecks the registered record against the agreement and loops back on any mismatch. It also keeps a list of unsettled songs so none are released without a signed split. The writer approves each submission. Edge case: a sample that needs clearance is flagged before registration.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

A song is ready only when shares sum to 100 percent, every writer has a signature and required identifiers, and any sample is cleared.

  • Hold the song from release if shares do not total 100 percent
  • Require a signature or written confirmation from each writer
  • Flag any sample without a clearance
  • Recheck the registered record within 14 days of submission

Make it yours

Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.

  • Rights organization and required fields
  • Rules for master and composition splits
  • Recheck timing (default 14 days)
  • Storage for signed splits
  • Publisher details

What keeps you in control

It always asks you first

  • Writer approves each submission to a rights organization

Hard limits

  • Never submit a registration without approval
  • Never change shares, only report them

It stops when

  • Done: Registration matches the signed split
  • Stop: Writers disagree on shares, so the agent flags the song and leaves the decision to them

An example run

What happensA song's split sheet shows 40, 35 and 30 percent, totaling 105. The agent flags it and lists the writers. They agree on 40, 35 and 25 and sign. The agent prepares the registration. When the record appears, the third writer's name is misspelled and the share shows 30. The agent drafts a correction request, which the writer approves.
