FinBrain MCP server

by ahmetsbilgin · official

Lets your AI pull FinBrain finance data: price predictions, news sentiment, insider trades and more.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “What's the news sentiment for AMZN?”, the FinBrain MCP server connects it to FinBrain, and you get back finance data in chat.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to FinBrain, a service that collects financial data about public companies. Once it is set up, you can just ask your AI in plain English about a stock ticker and it will fetch the numbers for you. It is handy for anyone who follows stocks, does research, or works in finance and wants answers without clicking around a website.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an outside service. This one connects your AI to FinBrain, so when you ask about a company the AI can go look up predictions, news, trades and other data there. You never touch the helper directly; your AI calls it for you behind the scenes.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question in normal words, like what the recent news sentiment is for a ticker. The AI passes that request to this helper, which talks to FinBrain using your own FinBrain API key. FinBrain sends back the data, the helper tidies it into a clean shape, and the AI shows it to you in the chat. You can ask for one company, or screen across many companies at once.

What you can do with it

  • Get daily or monthly price predictions for a ticker
  • Read recent news and daily sentiment scores for a company
  • Check insider transactions, Congress trades and lobbying filings
  • Look up LinkedIn employee counts, app store ratings and Reddit mentions
  • See options put/call ratios, government contracts and patent filings
  • Screen sentiment, insider trades or other data across many tickers
  • List which markets, tickers and regions are available

Try asking your AI

  • “Get FinBrain's daily predictions for AMZN”
  • “What's the news sentiment for AMZN from 2025-01-01 to 2025-03-31, limit 50”
  • “Show recent House trades involving NVDA and how long each member took to disclose”
  • “Screen insider trades across all tickers, limit 50”

What it gives back to you

You get back lists, tables or summaries in the chat, depending on what you asked. For example, a prediction request returns dates with mean forecasts and confidence ranges, and a news request returns article titles with sentiment scores. You can also say as CSV to get the data in a spreadsheet-friendly format. The server only reads data; it does not change anything on your accounts.

Before you start

What you need

  • Python 3.10 or newer
  • A FinBrain API key (a kind of password for the service; you get one from FinBrain)
  • An AI client that supports MCP, like the Claude desktop app or VS Code

Good to know

It only reads data, but it needs your FinBrain API key, so keep that key private and do not paste it anywhere public.

Install it with your AI

Add FinBrain MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check FinBrain MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
