AgentGuard MCP server

by bmdhodl

Let your AI look up AgentGuard traces, alerts, usage, costs and budget health.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “How much have my agents spent this month?”, the AgentGuard MCP server connects it to AgentGuard, and you get back A plain answer in your chat.

AgentGuard is a tool that watches over AI coding agents and stops them when they spend too much, get stuck in a loop, or retry the same thing over and over. This MCP server is the read-only window into that data. It is handy if you already use AgentGuard and want to ask your AI questions about what your agents have been doing.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to AgentGuard, so it can look up traces, alerts, usage, costs and budget health for you. You ask a question in plain words, and the helper fetches the answer from AgentGuard.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about your AgentGuard setup, like how much you have spent or which alerts fired. The AI passes that question to this MCP server. The server talks to AgentGuard and pulls back the matching traces, alerts, usage numbers, costs or budget status. Then the AI turns that into a normal answer in your chat. It is read-only, so it looks things up rather than changing them.

What you can do with it

  • Look up recent AgentGuard traces
  • Check which alerts have fired
  • See how much your agents have spent
  • Review usage numbers over a period
  • Check the health of your budgets
  • Ask which runs hit a guard stop

Try asking your AI

  • “Show me the AgentGuard traces from today”
  • “Which alerts fired this week?”
  • “How much have my agents spent so far this month?”
  • “Is any of my budgets close to its limit?”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in your chat: lists of traces, a summary of alerts, usage or cost numbers, and a plain read on your budget health. The AI may show these as short tables or bullet points. Since this server is read-only, it does not change anything in AgentGuard.

Before you start

What you need

  • An AgentGuard account with hosted data (the local SDK alone has no hosted history to read)
  • Access details for the AgentGuard hosted service, as described in the MCP server folder of the repository

Good to know

This server is described as read-only, so it should not change anything, but the traces it reads can contain application data, so be careful about what you share.
