Bitcoin MCP server

by Bortlesboat

Ask your AI about Bitcoin fees, mempool, blocks, mining and price, using your own node.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to Bitcoin data. Once it is set up, you can ask plain questions about fees, transactions, blocks and mining, and get real answers instead of guesses. It is handy if you send Bitcoin, run a node, or just like to keep an eye on the network.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot look up live Bitcoin numbers. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to a service. This one connects your AI to Bitcoin, either through your own Bitcoin Core node or a compatible API, so it can look things up for you when you ask.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question about Bitcoin, like whether fees are low right now. The AI passes that question to this helper. The helper talks to your Bitcoin node or a compatible API and pulls the numbers it needs. Then the AI turns those numbers into a clear answer in your chat, with fee rates, block details or a short summary.

What you can do with it

  • Check the best time to send a Bitcoin transaction
  • Compare fee rates across different confirmation times
  • Look up a transaction and see what it did
  • Inspect a block by height or hash
  • See how crowded the mempool is right now
  • Check mining pool rankings and difficulty
  • Get the current BTC price and market sentiment

Try asking your AI

  • “I need to send a Bitcoin transaction today. Should I send now or wait, and what fee rate would you use?”
  • “Analyze the current mempool congestion and tell me how busy it is.”
  • “How much would I save waiting 6 blocks instead of the next block?”
  • “Give me a situation summary of Bitcoin right now.”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in plain language in your chat. That can be a fee recommendation with a rate in sat/vB, a short summary of the mempool, a breakdown of a block or transaction, or a list of mining pools. Some tools also return numbers like price, difficulty or supply.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Bitcoin data backend: either a local Bitcoin Core or Knots node, or a compatible API URL you can reach
  • Python and uvx installed if you use the quick start commands
  • An MCP client like Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code or Zed

Good to know

It can broadcast a signed transaction if you ask it to, so double check anything before you send it, and keep in mind it reads data from your own node or API.

Install it with your AI

Add Bitcoin MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Bitcoin MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
