Monarch Money MCP server
by carsol
Lets your AI read your Monarch Money accounts, transactions, budgets and cash flow so it can answer money questions.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to your Monarch Money account in read-only mode. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI things like how much you spent on groceries this year, and it will look it up for you. It is handy if you already use Monarch Money to track your money and want to chat with your own numbers instead of clicking around.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Monarch Money, so it can look up your accounts, transactions, budgets and cash flow when you ask. It is read-only, which means the AI can look but not change anything in your Monarch account.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about your money, like what you spent last month. The AI sends that request to this helper program running on your computer. The helper logs in to your Monarch Money account using the details you saved, and pulls the numbers you asked for. Then it hands them back to the AI, which turns them into a normal answer in the chat. Nothing in your Monarch account gets changed along the way.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List your recent transactions, filtered by date range
- Search transactions by description or merchant name
- Show your budget status with actual spending versus targets
- Summarize your cash flow by category and time period
- Look up account details, including investment holdings
- List all your linked financial institutions
- List all your transaction categories
Try asking your AI
- “Show me my recent transactions from last month”
- “What's my current budget status?”
- “How much did I spend on groceries this year?”
- “What are my investment account balances?”
What it gives back to you
You get back plain answers in the chat: lists of transactions, totals, budget comparisons, or a summary of income, expenses and savings. The AI usually turns the raw numbers into a short written summary, and you can ask follow-up questions like which merchant was the biggest. It does not create files or change anything in Monarch.
