Datavidence Financials MCP server
by datavidence · official
Lets your AI pull clean, standard financial statements for any US public company from SEC filings.
This is a helper that connects your AI to a service called Datavidence Financials. That service reads the financial statements US public companies file with the SEC and tidies them into one consistent format. It is handy if you work with company numbers and want your AI to fetch them for you instead of you digging through filings yourself.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. It cannot go and look up a company's balance sheet. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, in this case a connection to Datavidence Financials. Once it is connected, you can ask your AI for a company's numbers and it will go and get them for you.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like "get Apple's 2023 income statement." Your AI passes that request to this helper. The helper sends it to the Datavidence Financials service, which looks up the company's SEC filings and normalizes the numbers into a standard income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow. The answer comes back into your chat as clean figures, and if you want, with links to the original SEC filing so you can check the source.
What you can do with it
- Get a company's income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow for a given year
- See the numbers as they were originally reported on a specific date, before any later corrections
- Track how a figure changed across filings, including restatements
- Look up a company's ticker and ID from its name
- List a company's recent SEC filings and filter by form type
- Pull the same statements for up to 25 companies in one go
- Check how many calls your key has left this month
Try asking your AI
- “Get Apple's FY2023 income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow with ratios”
- “Show me how Pfizer's FY2019 revenue changed across its filings”
- “What were Microsoft's 2022 figures as originally reported, before any restatements”
- “Find the ticker and CIK for Berkshire Hathaway”
What it gives back to you
You get back the actual numbers: revenue, expenses, assets, liabilities, cash flows, and optionally ratios like margins and return on equity. You can also get the filing date, SEC accession number, and a direct link to the original EDGAR filing for each value. It all shows up in your chat as a clean set of figures, not a raw filing.
Before you start
What you need
- The Claude desktop app or another app that supports MCP servers
- A Datavidence API key from RapidAPI for live data (the free tier gives you 1,500 calls a month)
- The uv tool installed if you want to run it without installing anything permanently
Good to know
The demo key only returns sample data, and live data uses your RapidAPI plan, so keep an eye on your monthly call count.
Install it with your AI
