Aibolit MCP server

by cqfn

Lets your AI find the most critical design problem in your Java code and fix it.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Find the worst design problem in my Java code and fix it”, the Aibolit MCP server connects it to Aibolit, and you get back the worst problem, and where it is.

This is a small helper that connects your AI coding assistant to Aibolit, a tool that checks Java code for design problems. When you ask your AI to "make the code better," it usually tidies up small things and misses the big ones. This helper points it at the worst problem first.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another tool. This one connects your AI to Aibolit, a Java code checker. So when you ask your AI about your code, it can actually run Aibolit behind the scenes and get real answers instead of guessing.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like "find the most critical design issue in my code base and fix it." Your AI then uses this helper, which runs Aibolit on your Java files. Aibolit looks through the code and picks out the most serious design problem it can find. The helper hands that finding back to your AI, and your AI explains it to you and can go ahead and fix it.

What you can do with it

  • Find the most critical design issue in your Java code
  • Point your AI at the worst problem instead of the easy cosmetic ones
  • Get a plain explanation of what is wrong and where
  • Let your AI fix the issue it found
  • Use it from Claude Code, Cursor, or Windsurf

Try asking your AI

  • “Find the most critical design issue in my code base and fix it.”
  • “What is the worst design problem in this Java project?”
  • “Run Aibolit on my code and tell me what to fix first.”
  • “Look at my Java files and suggest the most important refactoring.”

What it gives back to you

You get back a short finding: which design issue is the most critical and where it lives in your code. Your AI usually explains it in plain words in the chat, then offers to fix it. If you say yes, it edits the files for you.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js and npm installed
  • Python and pip installed
  • The aibolit tool installed (you can check with aibolit --version)
  • An AI coding assistant that supports MCP, like Claude Code, Cursor, or Windsurf

Good to know

It reads your Java code and your AI may edit or refactor files based on what it finds, so keep your work in version control before you let it change things.

Install it with your AI

Add Aibolit MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Aibolit MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
