Tastytrade MCP server

by ferdousbhai

Lets your AI check your Tastytrade account, look up quotes and Greeks, and place or cancel trades for you.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “What's my account balance?”, the Tastytrade MCP server connects it to Tastytrade, and you get back answer in chat.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to your Tastytrade brokerage account. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI things like what your balance is, what a stock is trading at, or to place an order, and it will talk to Tastytrade for you. It is handy for people who already trade on Tastytrade and want to do everyday account tasks by just typing a sentence.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot see your brokerage account or place a trade. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Tastytrade, so when you ask about your positions or want an order placed, the AI can actually look things up and act there for you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question in plain words, like what your account looks like or what a stock is trading at. The AI passes your request to this helper program. The helper logs in to Tastytrade using your saved credentials and asks Tastytrade for the information or the action. Tastytrade sends back the answer, and the helper hands it to your AI, which shows it to you in the chat. If you asked for a trade, the helper sends the order to Tastytrade and reports back what happened.

What you can do with it

  • Check your account balances and open positions
  • Get real-time quotes for stocks, options, futures, and indices
  • Look up Greeks like delta, theta, and vega for options
  • See IV rank, beta, and liquidity for symbols
  • Place, reprice, or cancel orders
  • Review your transaction and order history
  • Manage your watchlists

Try asking your AI

  • “Get my account balances and current positions”
  • “What's my net liquidating value?”
  • “Get real-time quotes for SPY and AAPL”
  • “Buy to open 100 AAPL shares at mid”
  • “Cancel order 12345”

What it gives back to you

You get answers right in the chat. Balances and positions come back as a short list, quotes come back as a small table with bid, ask, mid, and size, and order results come back with a compact summary including buying power and any warnings. History and watchlist requests come back as lists you can read or ask follow-up questions about. If you placed or changed an order, you see what the broker accepted.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Tastytrade brokerage account
  • An OAuth app set up on the Tastytrade website, which gives you a client ID, client secret, and refresh token
  • Your Tastytrade account ID (only needed if your OAuth grant can see more than one account)
  • An MCP client like the Claude desktop app, or a place to run the server

Good to know

This can place, reprice, and cancel real trades in your brokerage account, so double-check any order before you let it go through.
