SansFiction MCP server
by fgbytes
Let your AI search the SansFiction book catalog and keep track of your own reading library for you.

SansFiction is a digital library for books, reading journals and discovery. This helper connects your AI to it, so you can ask about books or manage your own reading list in plain words. It is handy if you read a lot and want your AI to do the looking up and the bookkeeping.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. This one connects your AI to SansFiction, so it can look up books there and change your personal library when you ask. You do not install anything complicated: it runs in the cloud and you just point your AI at it.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like find books by a certain author, or add this book to my reading list. Your AI passes that request to this helper. The helper talks to SansFiction over the internet, either to the public catalog or to your own library. SansFiction sends back the matching books, your reading status, or a confirmation that something changed. Your AI then tells you the result in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search the public catalog by title, author, series, mood or ISBN
- Look up the details of a single book or a whole series
- Browse public collections of books
- See the books in your own library, filtered by reading status
- Add a book to your library or update its status and progress
- Rate and review books you have read
- Remove a book from your library and check your reading stats
Try asking your AI
- “Find me books by Ursula K. Le Guin in the SansFiction catalog”
- “What am I currently reading in my SansFiction library?”
- “Add Dune to my library and mark it as reading”
- “Show my reading stats for this year”
What it gives back to you
You get back lists of books with their titles, authors and details, or a summary of your own library. When you ask for stats, you get numbers about your reading. When you add, update or remove something, you get a short confirmation that the change was made. All of this shows up as normal text in your chat.
Before you start
What you need
- A SansFiction account (free to browse the public catalog)
- A personal access token from sansfiction.com/docs/agents for the library tools (a kind of password for apps; the site gives you one while you are signed in)
- An AI app that can connect to MCP servers, like the Claude desktop app
Good to know
The library tools can change or delete things in your SansFiction account, so it is worth checking what your AI is about to do before you say yes.
Install it with your AI
Add SansFiction MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check SansFiction MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Readers, book club members and anyone who wants their AI to help track what they read and find new books.
