This is a helper that connects your AI to a big online library of old philosophy and humanities books. You ask a question in normal words, and it finds the passages that match. It is handy for students, teachers, writers, and anyone curious about thinkers like Plato, Kant, or Nietzsche.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Alexandria, a searchable collection of classical philosophy and humanities texts. So when you ask about a thinker or an idea, the AI can go look it up there and bring back real passages.

What this MCP server does

You type a question or a topic in your AI chat, like you normally would. The AI sends that request to this helper, which searches a huge collection of public domain books from the Internet Archive. It looks for the most relevant passages using meaning, not just keywords, and picks the best matches. Then it hands those passages back to your AI, which reads them and answers you in the chat. You can also ask it to list which books exist for a certain author, subject, or language.

What you can do with it

  • Find passages about a philosopher's key ideas
  • Compare how two thinkers treat the same topic
  • List books in the collection by author, subject, or language
  • Pull quotes and context for an essay or study notes
  • Explore a topic like stoicism or ethics across many writers
  • Filter results to a specific language such as English, German, or Latin

Try asking your AI

  • “What did Nietzsche mean by the will to power?”
  • “Find passages where Kant talks about duty and the categorical imperative.”
  • “Compare Plato and Aristotle on what virtue is.”
  • “List some English books by Plato in this collection.”

What it gives back to you

You get back short passages of text from real books, along with the title, author, date, and language of each one. Your AI usually reads those passages and gives you a written answer, sometimes with quotes. If you ask for a book list, you get a list of titles and authors instead. Everything shows up right in your chat, like a normal reply.
