World Train Map MCP server

by Flightmussy

Ask your AI about famous train routes worldwide and get facts, distances and route lines.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Which scenic trains run in Switzerland?”, the World Train Map MCP server connects it to World Train Map, and you get back route facts in your chat.

This is a helper that lets your AI assistant look up legendary train routes around the world, like the Glacier Express, the Trans-Siberian or the Shinkansen. It is handy if you plan trips, write about travel, or just love trains and want quick, reliable answers instead of guessing. You do not need to install anything: it runs online.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to a service. This one connects your AI to the World Train Map atlas, a big collection of notable train routes with their facts and their route lines on the map. So when you ask about a train route, your AI can go and look it up there and bring the answer back to you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question about train routes, for example which scenic trains run in Switzerland. Your AI sends that question to this helper, which searches the atlas of notable routes. The helper finds matching routes and returns their details, like the cities they connect, the distance, the top speed and how long the trip takes. Your AI then writes the answer for you in plain words in the chat. If you want, it can also give you the route's shape on a map as a line of coordinates.

What you can do with it

  • Search notable train routes by name, country or category
  • Get key facts for a route, like distance, top speed and journey time
  • Find scenic, night, high-speed or luxury train routes
  • Compare routes by fame ranking or by length
  • Get the map line for a route as coordinates
  • Check how many routes and countries the atlas currently covers

Try asking your AI

  • “What are the most famous scenic train routes in Europe?”
  • “Tell me about the Glacier Express: where does it run and how long does it take?”
  • “Which night trains connect Vienna to other cities?”
  • “Give me the route line for the Trans-Siberian so I can plot it on a map.”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in normal chat text: route names, the cities they connect, distances, speeds, journey times and short descriptions. If you ask for several routes, your AI can show them as a list or a small table. When you ask for the map line, you get a set of coordinates you can paste into a mapping tool. It only reads and looks up information, it does not change anything.
