Freqtrade MCP server
by kukapay
Lets your AI check and control your Freqtrade crypto trading bot by just asking.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to a Freqtrade trading bot. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI things like how your trades are doing or what your balance is, and it will go and fetch the answer from your bot. It is handy if you already run Freqtrade and want to check on it without clicking around a dashboard.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another app. This one connects your AI to your Freqtrade bot, which is software that trades cryptocurrency for you. So when you ask a question about your bot, the AI can actually go and look it up instead of guessing.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your Freqtrade bot in normal words. The AI passes that request to this helper program. The helper talks to your Freqtrade bot through its built-in web connection, which you have to switch on. Your bot sends back the information, like your balance or your open trades, and the helper hands it to the AI. The AI then explains it to you in the chat, or if you asked it to do something like start the bot, it tells the bot to do that.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Check your current balance and profit
- See your open trades and past trade history
- Look up price data for a trading pair
- Start or stop the trading bot
- Add or remove pairs from the blacklist
- Place a buy or sell trade
- Reload the bot's configuration
Try asking your AI
- “What's my Freqtrade balance right now?”
- “Show me my open trades.”
- “How much profit has the bot made so far?”
- “Stop the trading bot.”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in plain text in your chat. For example, a list of your open trades, a number for your balance, or a short summary of your profit. If you asked it to start the bot or place a trade, it tells you whether that worked.
Before you start
What you need
- A running Freqtrade bot with its web API turned on
- The username and password you set for that API
- Python 3.13 or newer
- Git, to download the helper program
Good to know
This helper can place real trades, start or stop your bot, and change its settings, so only use it with a bot you control and double check before asking it to buy or sell.
