Liveblocks MCP server
by liveblocks · official
Lets your AI manage Liveblocks rooms, threads, comments and notifications for you, and read Storage and Yjs data.

This is a small helper from Liveblocks that lets your AI assistant work with your Liveblocks projects. Liveblocks is a service that helps teams build live, collaborative apps, with things like shared rooms, comment threads and notifications. If you already use Liveblocks and want to look things up or make changes without clicking around the dashboard, this is for you.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Liveblocks, so it can look up your rooms, threads and comments, and make changes there when you ask. You stay in charge: the AI only does what you tell it to do.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your Liveblocks project, like listing rooms or reading a thread. The AI passes your request to this helper. The helper talks to Liveblocks using your secret key and the Liveblocks REST API. The answer comes back into the chat, so you can read it or ask a follow-up. If you ask for a change, like creating a room or deleting a comment, the helper makes that change in Liveblocks for you.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List the rooms in your Liveblocks project
- Create, rename or delete rooms
- Read threads and comments in a room
- Post new comments or reply to a thread
- Mark threads or notifications as read
- Look at what is stored in Storage or Yjs (read only)
Try asking your AI
- “List all the rooms in my Liveblocks project”
- “Show me the comments in the room called design-review”
- “Create a new room called sprint-planning”
- “Delete the thread about the old logo”
What it gives back to you
You get answers right in the chat. That can be a list of rooms, the text of a thread with its comments, or a short confirmation that something was created, changed or deleted. For Storage and Yjs, you get a read-only view of the data, not a way to edit it. Everything is shown as plain text you can read and copy.
Before you start
What you need
- A Liveblocks account with a project
- Your Liveblocks secret key from the project dashboard (it starts with sk_)
- Node.js installed on your computer (the helper runs through npx)
Good to know
This helper can create, change and delete things in your Liveblocks project, so check with your AI before letting it remove rooms, threads or comments.
Install it with your AI
Add Liveblocks MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Liveblocks MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who already use Liveblocks and want to check or tidy up rooms, threads and comments without opening the dashboard.
