LNbits MCP server

Connect your AI to your LNbits Lightning wallet to check balances, create invoices, and send payments.
This is a small helper that lets your AI assistant talk to your LNbits Lightning wallet. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI in plain words to check your balance, make an invoice, or send sats. It is handy if you already use LNbits and want to skip clicking around the dashboard.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. This one connects your AI to LNbits, your Lightning wallet. So when you ask something like "what's my balance?", the AI can actually look it up for you.
What this MCP server does
You type a normal request to your AI, like "create an invoice for 1000 sats". The AI picks the right tool from this server. The server then talks to your LNbits instance using your API key. The result comes back into the chat, so you see the invoice or the balance right there. You can also chain requests, like creating an invoice and then checking if it was paid.

What it gives back to you
You get answers right in the chat. That can be a number like your balance, a list of recent payments, a new invoice code you can copy, or a short confirmation that a payment went through. If something fails, the AI usually tells you what went wrong in plain words.
Before you start
What you need
- An LNbits account on an LNbits instance (yours or someone else's)
- Your LNbits API key (found in the sidebar under Node URL, API keys and API docs)
- Python 3.10 or newer installed on your computer
- An MCP-compatible AI client, like the Claude desktop app
Good to know
This server can send real money from your Lightning wallet, so double-check amounts and invoices before you confirm, and keep your Admin key private.
