Peil is a tool for Dutch freelancers (ZZP'ers) to track hours and invoices. This MCP server connects Peil to your AI assistant, so you can log time and check your invoices by simply typing a request. It is handy if you already use Peil and want to skip clicking around the app.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. This one connects your AI to Peil, your hours and invoicing tool. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI things about your Peil data and it will look them up or make changes for you.

What this MCP server does

You type a request in plain language, like logging hours or asking who still owes you money. Your AI passes that request to this helper, which talks to your Peil account through Peil's own system. Peil sends back the answer or makes the change, and your AI shows it to you in the chat. For example, you can ask it to draft an invoice from your unbilled hours, and it will prepare a draft for you to review. Nothing gets sent to your clients unless you specifically allow it.

What you can do with it

  • Log hours to a client for a day or a period
  • Draft an invoice from your unbilled hours
  • See who still owes you money and what is overdue
  • List your clients and their default rates
  • Mark an invoice as paid
  • Edit or delete a timesheet entry
  • Check your year-to-date position

Try asking your AI

  • “Where do I stand?”
  • “Log 6 hours to De Correspondent today for editing work.”
  • “Draft an invoice from my unbilled hours for De Correspondent.”
  • “Which invoices are overdue right now?”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in plain text in your chat: lists of clients, hours, or invoices, and a snapshot of what is outstanding, overdue, or drafted. When you log hours or draft an invoice, it confirms what it changed or created. Numbers like your effective hourly rate come back as simple figures you can read at a glance.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Peil account (the Developer settings are part of the Pro plan)
  • An API key from Peil, created under Settings then Developer
  • An AI assistant that can use MCP servers, like Claude Desktop or Cursor

Good to know

Some tools can email your clients or delete entries, so keep the send permission off your key unless you really want your assistant to contact clients, and always check before confirming.

Install it with your AI
