QuantConnect MCP server

by QuantConnect

Let your AI manage QuantConnect projects, run backtests, and deploy trading strategies for you.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Create a new project called My Strategy”, the QuantConnect MCP server connects it to QuantConnect, and you get back answers in your chat.

This is an official helper from QuantConnect that connects your AI assistant to your QuantConnect account. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI in plain words to create a project, run a backtest, or check on a live trading strategy, and it will do the clicking for you. It is handy for anyone who uses QuantConnect and wants to spend less time navigating the website.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to QuantConnect, the platform where people build and test trading strategies. So when you ask for something there, the AI can actually look it up or make the change for you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like create a new project called My Strategy. The AI sends that request through this helper, which talks to QuantConnect on your behalf. QuantConnect does the work, like making the project or running a backtest, and sends the result back. The AI then tells you what happened in the chat, in normal words. You never have to open the QuantConnect website yourself unless you want to.

What you can do with it

  • Create, rename, and delete QuantConnect projects
  • Write and edit strategy files inside a project
  • Run backtests and read the results, orders, and charts
  • Add or remove collaborators on a project
  • Deploy a strategy to live trading and check its portfolio
  • Stop or liquidate a live trading algorithm
  • Upload and manage files in the Object Store

Try asking your AI

  • “Create a new Python project called Moving Average Test”
  • “Run a backtest on my latest project and show me the results”
  • “List all my live trading deployments and their current portfolio value”
  • “Add my colleague as a collaborator on project 12345 with edit rights”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat, like a list of your projects, the numbers from a backtest, the orders it placed, or a note that a change was made. For charts or logs, the AI can read them and summarize what they show. If you asked for something to be created or deleted, it tells you it is done. Everything appears as normal text in the conversation.

Before you start

What you need

  • A QuantConnect account
  • Your QuantConnect user ID and API token (a kind of password for apps; you request it from your QuantConnect profile page)
  • Docker Desktop installed and running
  • The Claude desktop app (or another MCP-capable client)

Good to know

It can change and delete things in your QuantConnect account and can start or stop real live trading, so check with your AI before letting it deploy or liquidate anything.

Install it with your AI
