Lets your AI see your sleep, recovery and workouts from WHOOP and Apple Health, stored on your own computer.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “How did I sleep last night and how is my recovery today?”, on your own computer the Cadence health MCP server works with cadence on your computer, and you get back plain answers in your chat.

Cadence is a small program that collects your health data from WHOOP and Apple Health and keeps it in one file on your own machine. Once it is set up, your AI assistant can look at that data and answer questions about your sleep, recovery and workouts. It is handy if you already use WHOOP or an iPhone and want your AI to know how you are actually doing.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. It has no way to see your sleep score or your step count. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something. Here, the helper connects your AI to your own Cadence health store, so when you ask about last night's sleep, the AI can go look it up and answer with real numbers instead of guessing.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question about your health, like how you slept or how hard you trained. The AI passes that question to the Cadence helper running on your computer. The helper reads your local Cadence file, which already holds your WHOOP and Apple Health data. It sends back the matching numbers, like your recovery score, sleep hours or recent workouts. Your AI then explains them to you in plain words in the chat.

What you can do with it

  • Look up last night's sleep and recovery score
  • Check your recent workouts and how hard they were
  • Compare today's numbers to your own 30-day normal
  • See which days you had unusual recovery or heart rate readings
  • Review your step count and daily activity from Apple Health
  • Spot patterns between late-night coding and next-morning recovery
  • Get a weekly summary of how your body has been doing

Try asking your AI

  • “How did I sleep last night and how is my recovery today?”
  • “Was my resting heart rate unusual this week compared to my normal?”
  • “Show me my workouts from the past 7 days and how much strain they added up to.”
  • “Do I recover worse on mornings after I commit code late at night?”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat, written in normal sentences with the real numbers pulled from your data. It can list recent nights of sleep, show a recovery score, or point out a value that stands out from your usual range. When there is not enough history for a fair comparison, it says so instead of making something up. It only reads your data, it does not change anything.

Before you start

What you need

  • A computer with Python installed
  • A WHOOP account if you want WHOOP data (you register a personal app on their developer site to get a client ID and secret, which are like a username and password for the connection)
  • An Apple Health export file from your iPhone if you want Apple Health data (Health app, tap your profile picture, then Export All Health Data)
  • The Claude desktop app or another AI client that supports MCP servers

Good to know

It reads your private health data and your git history, so only connect it on a computer you trust, and note that WHOOP data is pulled from WHOOP's cloud even though everything else stays local.
