dotpals MCP server

by Rikinshah787

Lets your AI check what your coding agent really did: files changed, commands run, and whether tests actually passed.

dotpals is a small floating helper that sits next to your editor and watches your coding agent, like Claude Code or Codex. It keeps a plain record of what the agent changed, what it ran, and whether the tests really passed. This page is about the part that lets other AI tools ask dotpals what really happened.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something else. This one connects your AI to dotpals, the little watcher that tracks your coding agent's work. So when you ask your AI what your agent did, it can go and ask dotpals and bring back the real evidence.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question, like whether your coding agent is ready to merge. Your AI uses this helper to talk to dotpals, which has been watching your agent the whole time. dotpals looks at its own record: which files changed, which commands ran, and what the test output actually said. Then your AI gets that evidence back and tells you the answer. It reads only. It does not change your code or run anything itself.

What you can do with it

  • Check whether your coding agent's work is really done
  • See which files your agent changed, created or deleted
  • Find out if the tests actually passed, read from the test output
  • Get a summary of what your agent did today
  • Spot risky steps like force-pushes or changed .env files
  • Ask whether a session is ready to merge
  • Get a recap of a single request as a short story

Try asking your AI

  • “Ask dotpals if my agent's work is really done”
  • “Is this session ready to merge?”
  • “What did my coding agent do today?”
  • “Were there any risky steps in the last session?”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in plain words, based on dotpals' own record, not the agent's word. For example, it might tell you which files changed, whether tests passed after the last change, or list risky steps it noticed. Some answers come as short summaries you can copy as Markdown. Everything shows up right in your chat.

Before you start

What you need

  • dotpals installed and running on your computer
  • Node.js 20 or newer
  • A coding agent like Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, if you want it to check that agent's work

Good to know

dotpals only reads and reports. It does not change your code, so it is safe to ask it questions, but it can only tell you what it has seen while running.

Install it with your AI

Add dotpals MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check dotpals MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,609 MCP servers here for you.
