Rett fra Bonden MCP server

by slookisen

Let your AI find local food producers in Norway: farms, farm shops, REKO rings and farmers' markets.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Which farms near Bergen sell cheese?”, the Rett fra Bonden MCP server connects it to Rett fra Bonden, and you get back list of matching producers.

Rett fra Bonden is a directory of local food in Norway. It lists over 1,300 producers, including farms, farm shops, REKO rings, farmers' markets and cooperatives. This MCP server connects your AI assistant to that directory, so you can just ask in plain Norwegian or English and get real producers back. It is handy if you want to buy food straight from the people who make it, or if you help others do that.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to a service. This one connects your AI to Rett fra Bonden, the Norwegian directory of local food producers. Once it is connected, your AI can look up farms, farm shops and markets for you when you ask, instead of guessing.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a normal question, like which farms near Bergen sell cheese. Your AI passes that question to this helper, which searches the Rett fra Bonden directory. The helper looks through producers by words, categories, tags and distance from a place. It sends the matches back, and your AI writes them up for you in the chat. For some searches it can also start a conversation with the top matches, so the sellers can reply to you.

What you can do with it

  • Search for producers by what you want, in Norwegian or English
  • Filter by category, tag and how far from a place you are willing to look
  • Get a full profile for one producer, with address, products and opening hours
  • See which cities have the most producers listed
  • Compare a few producers, for example who ships nationwide
  • Start a conversation with the best matches so sellers can respond

Try asking your AI

  • “Finn økologiske grønnsaker nær Oslo som leverer hjem”
  • “Which dairy farms in Rogaland sell raw milk directly to consumers?”
  • “Compare three honey producers in Innlandet and tell me who ships nationwide”
  • “Find a farm shop within 30 km of Trondheim that sells cheese”

What it gives back to you

You get a list of matching producers with their names, what they sell and where they are. If you ask about one producer, you get a fuller profile with address, products, opening hours and certifications. You can also ask for simple numbers, like how many producers are listed or which cities are covered. Everything shows up as normal text in your chat, so you can read it and ask follow-up questions.
