CryptoTaxEdge MCP server

by sturs49 · official

Ask your AI to look up the US tax category and treatment of any crypto transaction hash.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “What is the tax treatment of this Ethereum transaction: 0x1234...?”, the CryptoTaxEdge MCP server connects it to CryptoTaxEdge, and you get back tax category and treatment.

CryptoTaxEdge is a helper that tells you how a crypto transaction is likely treated for US taxes. You give it a transaction hash, and it comes back with a category, a tax treatment, and a confidence score. It is handy if you are sorting out your own crypto records or helping clients do theirs.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to CryptoTaxEdge, a service that classifies on-chain transactions for US tax purposes. Once connected, you can ask your AI about a transaction and it will look it up for you.

What this MCP server does

You paste a transaction hash into your chat and ask what it is. Your AI sends that hash to the CryptoTaxEdge helper. The helper looks at the transaction on the blockchain and figures out what kind of event it was, like a swap or a reward. It then sends back the category, the tax treatment, a confidence score, and a flag if a human should review it. Your AI shows you all of that right in the chat.

What you can do with it

  • Look up the tax category of a single transaction hash
  • Check the US tax treatment of a batch of transactions
  • See a confidence score for each classification
  • Spot transactions that need a closer look
  • Get a breakdown of what was sent and received in each transaction
  • Identify the counterparties involved in a transaction

Try asking your AI

  • “What is the tax treatment of this Ethereum transaction: 0x1234...?”
  • “Classify these five Solana transaction hashes for me.”
  • “Does this swap count as a disposal?”
  • “Which of these transactions need review?”

What it gives back to you

You get back a clear answer for each transaction: its category, its tax treatment, whether it is taxable, and a confidence score. If something is uncertain, it says so with a needs_review flag instead of guessing. You also see a breakdown of the assets sent and received, and who the other party was. All of this appears as text in your chat.

Before you start

What you need
