UAE CEOs Face Job Risk Over AI Delivery, Study Shows

Seventy-nine percent of UAE chief executives believe their roles are at risk if their organizations fail to deliver measurable business gains from AI by the end of 2026, according to research from Dataiku conducted by Harris Poll.

The finding underscores how quickly AI has shifted from a strategic initiative to an executive accountability measure. More than half of UAE CEOs (53%) say experience leading a successful AI strategy will become the top criterion boards use when hiring new leaders within two years.

The personal stakes are highest in the UAE. Twenty-three percent of UAE CEOs worry that their organization's current AI approach could damage their long-term legacy-more than double the global average across surveyed countries.

CEOs Taking Direct Control

In response, UAE CEOs are increasing their direct involvement in AI decisions. Three-quarters (75%) report their participation in AI-related decisions has grown over the past year. More than half (55%) identify themselves as the single most influential stakeholder in their organization's AI direction, outpacing IT, data, or business leaders.

Board pressure is mounting. Fifty-nine percent of UAE CEOs say their boards expect measurable AI outcomes, and 90% believe these expectations are realistic. Seventy-six percent also report that investors view AI strategy and execution as important to their organization's value.

The risk of removal is real. Seventy-five percent of UAE CEOs believe they could lose their position in 2026 due to failed AI strategy or a high-profile AI-driven crisis.

Caution Amid Urgency

Despite mounting pressure, many organizations are moving slowly. Forty-four percent of UAE CEOs say their companies have delayed or cancelled AI initiatives due to concerns about potential failure. This tension between speed and risk reflects the narrow path executives must navigate.

A gap exists between confidence and actual capability. While 73% of UAE CEOs say they trust their governance frameworks, the UAE ranks lowest globally in confidence explaining AI-driven decisions to regulators or courts. Forty-one percent have not challenged AI vendor or platform decisions made within their organization over the past year.

Governance as Foundation

Florian Douetteau, CEO and co-founder of Dataiku, said the challenge reflects a fundamental tension: "CEOs are staking their jobs on AI, but still questioning its outputs and struggling to control the systems they say they own."

Stronger governance frameworks matter. Forty-three percent of UAE CEOs say their organization would face significant risk if the "AI bubble" burst, making flexibility and resilience critical.

Organizations need governance that acts as an accelerator rather than a constraint, allowing teams to evolve models, change vendors, or adapt to new regulations without starting over. In an environment where AI outcomes must be proven and defended, governance becomes the foundation for both trust and long-term value.

About the Research

The study surveyed 900 CEOs in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, UAE, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore between February 2 and March 2, 2026. All respondents work for large companies with annual revenue exceeding US$500 million.
