Bulgarian Broker Becomes First to Sell Insurance Directly Through ChatGPT
Boleron, a Bulgaria-based insurance broker, has received approval from OpenAI to distribute insurance products directly within ChatGPT, making it the first licensed insurance broker authorized to sell policies through an AI platform. Three other insurance companies globally have received similar OpenAI approval: Tuio in Spain, Insurify in the United States, and BizCover in Australia.
Boleron launched with travel insurance in ChatGPT, offering full quote-and-compare functionality. The company plans to add all 35 of its insurance products from 10 partners by the end of 2026, including motor third-party liability, comprehensive vehicle coverage, property insurance, health insurance, and life insurance.
Why Broker Licenses Matter in AI Distribution
AI platforms face steep compliance and cross-border licensing costs if they become regulated insurance intermediaries themselves. Instead, they partner with entities that have already obtained these licenses. This creates a structural advantage for brokers with multi-jurisdictional regulatory approval.
Alexander Tsvetkov, Boleron's founder and CEO, said: "The broker license, long considered a legacy asset, just became the most valuable piece of infrastructure in AI-native insurance distribution."
Expansion Beyond OpenAI
Boleron's integration uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard not limited to OpenAI. Anthropic's Claude already supports MCP, and Google's Gemini is expected to publish compatible specifications within months.
This positions Boleron across multiple AI platforms rather than tying the company to a single vendor. The company targets Germany, Poland, Greece, and Romania as priority markets throughout 2027, using the EU Freedom of Services passport to scale with a single regulatory framework.
Market Reaction
OpenAI's initial insurance approvals months ago triggered a 9% average decline in global broker stocks. Several analyst firms described the drop as an overreaction, citing the short-term resilience of the broker business model.
Boleron's approval suggests brokers with existing licenses and multi-country coverage have a structural advantage in AI distribution channels, rather than facing obsolescence.
