HBA integrates Healthee's AI benefits platform to simplify employee support

The Health Benefits Alliance will integrate Healthee's AI-enabled benefits platform - including its virtual assistant, Zoe - across HBA's self-funded, level-funded and traditional programs. Employees will be able to get clear answers on coverage, compare plans, estimate provider costs, and find in-network care in one place. Telehealth and mental health access will also sit inside the same interface.

"[The Health Benefits Alliance's] mission is to make meaningful, cost-effective health benefits simpler and more accessible for employers and their employees," said Matt Esposito, president of The Health Benefits Alliance. "By partnering with Healthee, we're introducing smarter, more intuitive navigation tools that bring clarity, convenience and confidence to every member experience."

What employees can do in one place

  • Ask Zoe questions about benefits, coverage and treatment options.
  • Get open enrollment guidance and side-by-side plan comparisons.
  • Estimate provider and procedure costs and avoid out-of-network surprises.
  • Locate in-network doctors and therapists, then connect to 24/7 telehealth and behavioral health.
  • Receive preventative care reminders and next-best-step suggestions.

Why HR teams should care

  • Fewer repetitive benefits questions and faster answers for employees.
  • Better plan fit during OE through clearer comparisons and cost visibility.
  • Potential reductions in out-of-network claims and unnecessary ER visits via cost and access tools.
  • Improved engagement with preventative care and mental health support.

How this fits into HBA's plans

The integration spans HBA's self-funded, level-funded and traditional benefits programs, giving employers flexibility without fragmenting the employee experience. Whether you offer a self-funded plan or a more traditional structure, the same front-end experience aims to keep benefit details and care access simple and consistent.

Rollout tips for HR

  • Confirm SSO and data feeds (eligibility, plan docs, network directories) to reduce login issues and stale content.
  • Embed Zoe in your intranet, benefits hub and OE materials; include quick-start use cases (e.g., "Check if my therapist is in-network").
  • Train managers and HRBPs on common prompts and escalation paths.
  • Set clear guardrails for medical guidance versus plan information; direct clinical questions to appropriate care channels.
  • Track impact: benefits ticket deflection, time-to-answer, telehealth and mental health utilization, and preventative care completion.

Background and momentum

Healthee launched in 2021 (originally as Insurights) and rebranded in 2022. The company raised $22 million in seed funding, $32 million in Series A the following year, and an oversubscribed $50 million Series B led by Key1 Capital in April. In 2023, Healthee partnered with TriNet to bring its platform to more employers.
