JAKARTA – Microsoft’s Work Trend Index 2025 report sheds light on how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping business operations and team dynamics in Indonesia. A striking 97% of business leaders in the country see 2025 as a pivotal year to revisit and adjust their core business strategies.

While 63% of leaders emphasize the need to boost productivity, 88% of workers, including both employees and leaders, report feeling constrained by limited time or energy to finish their tasks. To address this challenge, 95% of business leaders express trust in AI agents to become active members of digital support teams within the next one to two years.

More than half of these leaders, around 52%, prioritize expanding their teams’ capacity with digital workers. Upskilling their workforce follows closely as the next key focus.

Future Roles of AI in Teams

  • 48% of business leaders anticipate AI will redesign work processes.
  • 63% plan to implement multi-agent AI systems.
  • 69% will emphasize employee training initiatives.
  • 58% intend to manage AI agents directly within teams.

Alongside these shifts, 65% of managers expect AI-related training and upskilling to be essential for their teams moving forward.

Bridging the AI Knowledge Gap

Despite progress, a gap remains in how AI agents are understood: 87% of leaders are familiar with the concept, but only 56% of employees share the same level of knowledge. This gap could hamper smooth AI adoption if not addressed.

According to Dharma Simorangkir, President Director of Microsoft Indonesia, closing this gap requires focused investment in human resource development. “Developing new skills and fostering a work culture where everyone is prepared to collaborate with AI agents is crucial,” he said.

For HR professionals, this means prioritizing AI literacy and practical training programs. Investing in upskilling initiatives will help teams integrate AI tools effectively and sustain productivity gains.
