Intuit Cuts 3,000 Jobs as It Integrates Generative AI
Intuit is laying off 3,000 employees-17% of its global workforce-as it restructures operations around generative AI capabilities. CEO Sasan Goodarzi announced the decision in an internal memo, according to Reuters.
The company is closing offices in Reno, Nevada, and Woodland Hills, California. Affected employees receive 16 weeks of base pay plus two additional weeks for each year of service.
Intuit has partnered with OpenAI and Anthropic to embed AI across its main products: TurboTax, QuickBooks, Credit Karma, and Mailchimp. The restructuring reflects how the company plans to operate with fewer staff as AI handles more workflow tasks.
Broader Tech Industry Trend
Intuit is not isolated in this shift. Tech companies have eliminated more than 115,000 jobs globally this year alone, according to Layoffs.fyi. Last year, the sector cut over 124,000 positions.
The pattern signals how companies are reassessing staffing needs as AI capabilities mature. Operations teams should understand these workforce changes reflect broader automation of routine tasks-a shift that affects hiring, training, and skill requirements across the industry.
