Kao Data Names Spencer Lamb as CEO to Lead UK AI Infrastructure Expansion
Kao Data has appointed Spencer Lamb as chief executive officer, effective immediately. Lamb, who joined the data centre operator in January 2020, previously served as managing director and chief commercial officer. He succeeds into the role with over two decades of experience in the global data centre industry.
Lamb will oversee day-to-day operations and growth execution at the company, which specializes in data centres built for artificial intelligence and advanced computing workloads. Founder and Executive Chairman David Bloom will focus on strategic priorities including financing, capital partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, and government engagement on UK AI infrastructure policy.
During his six years at Kao Data, Lamb led go-to-market strategy and secured major customer agreements across cloud, AI, enterprise, and financial services sectors. He helped establish the company's Harlow campus as a hub for high-performance computing and AI workloads, and oversaw expansion into a multi-site portfolio spanning Harlow, Slough, Northolt, Park Royal in West London, Greater Manchester, and additional locations under development.
Lamb has become an advocate for domestic AI infrastructure development in the UK, working with local and national government stakeholders on data centre policy.
Why This Matters for Executives
The appointment reflects a deliberate leadership structure designed for scale. Bloom said the move "formalises what has been an increasingly natural evolution in how we lead this business," with Lamb handling operations while Bloom concentrates on capital strategy and government relations.
Lamb said in a statement: "One of the biggest strengths of Kao Data is our 'player-manager' mentality, recruiting from within to develop and grow our people, which is exactly what this role calls for."
The transition occurs as UK data centre operators face growing demand for AI infrastructure. Kao Data continues to invest in capacity to support AI and advanced computing requirements across the UK and Europe.
