New Chrome Extension Removes AI Writing Tells From Your Emails
Sinceerly, a Google Chrome extension, does the opposite of what most AI writing tools do: it strips away the telltale signs that an AI wrote your message. The tool edits emails to add back the small errors and casual patterns that humans typically include.
The extension works within Gmail and targets specific patterns that have become associated with AI-generated text. Em dashes, the phrase "not just X, but Y," and overly polished punctuation all get flagged for removal.
Three Modes for Different Contexts
Sinceerly offers three editing modes. The "subtle" mode makes minimal changes, while "human" mode adds more casual language. "CEO" mode strips punctuation entirely and appends "Sent from my iPhone" to the signature.
The free version allows three rewrites per month. A $4.99 monthly subscription unlocks unlimited rewrites, instant mode switching, and the ability to save and reopen edited versions.
The Absurdity of AI Un-Doing AI
Ben Horwitz, an investment partner at venture capital firm Dorm Room Fund, created the tool. The concept reflects a real problem: readers increasingly distrust AI-generated copy, and publishers have begun rejecting it outright. Last month, publisher Hachette dropped the novel "Shy Girl" over allegations it was AI-written.
The cycle-using AI to write, then using AI to make it sound human-illustrates the current skepticism around machine-generated text. AI for Writers has become a fixture in professional writing, but the market's response suggests many prefer human authorship.
Writing the email yourself remains the simpler option.
