Oura Ring 5 Adds Predictive Health Monitoring and Clinical Integration

Oura has released its fifth-generation health ring with predictive cardiovascular and respiratory monitoring, clinician access, and connections to licensed physicians. The Ring 5 launches Thursday for preorder and ships June 4, priced at $499 for most finishes and $399 for silver and black.

The device is 40% smaller than its predecessor, runs for a week on a single charge, and uses LEDs four times stronger than previous generations. Oura reengineered the ring with 12 signal pathways to improve accuracy across different finger sizes and skin tones.

Predictive Monitoring Before Symptoms Appear

The Ring 5 introduces Health Radar, which continuously monitors biometric signals to detect patterns in cardiovascular and respiratory health before a wearer feels symptoms. The feature identifies whether lifestyle changes, rest, or clinical evaluation may be needed.

Health Radar draws on peer-reviewed COVID-19 research showing that biometric signals like temperature, breathing rate, and heart rate variability shift detectably up to two-and-one-half days before illness onset.

Two new monitoring features track specific health markers: Blood Pressure Signals detects cardiovascular strain patterns over 30 days, while Nighttime BP monitors blood pressure during sleep when it should naturally drop. The ring does not measure blood pressure directly but identifies patterns suggesting strain.

A 30-day respiratory health view tracks breathing regularity and sleep-related disturbances through a diagnostic pathway powered by ResMed. If the ring flags a concerning pattern, wearers can complete a diagnostic assessment and explore treatment options through the Oura app.

Direct Access to Physicians and Health Records

The Ring 5 integrates an AI-enabled care layer connecting wearers to licensed physicians through Counsel Health, a virtual practice offering message-based care. Users can chat with an AI doctor and add a licensed physician to the conversation if needed. This feature is available in 43 U.S. states.

Wearers can import personal health records and lab results directly into the Oura app, log GLP-1 medication dosing and schedules, and track live activity. Oura said this aligns with its CMS Health Tech Ecosystem Pledge commitment to interoperability and patient-controlled data sharing.

Hardware and Availability

The Ring 5 is made of lightweight titanium and includes a new portable charging case holding up to a month of charge. Both the ring and case can be located using Apple Find My or Android Find Hub.

The charging case is sold separately for $99. Gold, stealth, brushed silver, and deep rose finishes cost $499, while silver and black are $399.

For healthcare professionals evaluating wearable data in clinical settings, understanding AI for Healthcare and AI Data Analysis helps contextualize how biometric signals are processed and presented to inform patient care decisions.
