Parliament to Address School Funding, AI Development, and Cooperative Law Reform
The Dewan Rakyat session today will focus on three key issues: the stagnant per capita grant (PCG) rate for schools since 2002, progress in artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives, and a proposed update to cooperative laws.
School Funding Concerns
Mordi Bimol (PH–Mas Gading) will question the Education Minister about reviewing the PCG rate. The current allocation has remained unchanged for over two decades, raising concerns about its adequacy for operational and teaching needs, especially in rural schools where resources are limited.
Artificial Intelligence Development
Datuk Dr Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail (PN–Kubang Pasu) will seek updates from the Digital Minister on the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO). The inquiry will cover recent achievements and plans for collaboration across ministries to enhance AI development and its practical applications.
For those interested in AI training and resources, Complete AI Training offers a wide range of courses to stay informed on the latest advancements.
Cooperative Law Reform
Datuk Muslimin Yahaya (PN–Sungai Besar) will raise questions with the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives about the reasons behind replacing the Cooperative Societies Act 1993. The discussion will focus on how the new legislation plans to address current challenges within the cooperative movement.
Science and Technology Initiatives
S. Kesavan (PH–Sungai Siput) will inquire about the progress of the Local R&D Products and Services Utilisation Programme (MySTI). He will also ask about measures to increase the visibility and adoption of MySTI-branded products and services.
13th Malaysia Plan Debate Continues
Following the question session, members of parliament will continue debating the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), themed “Redesigning Development.” Introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on 31 July, the plan outlines a RM611 billion government investment for national development spanning 2026 to 2030.
The current Dewan Rakyat meeting, which began on July 15, will run until August 28. So far, 78 MPs have contributed to the 13MP debate.
