Perkins Coie lawyers train soft skills with AI avatars
Perkins Coie's London office is using AI avatars to train lawyers on networking, collaboration, conflict resolution and delegation. The firm partnered with Levra, an AI training platform, to run the program in beta testing.
The avatars simulate real workplace scenarios, giving lawyers a space to practice and fail without client consequences. Ian Bagshaw, managing partner of the London office, told Law.com that the training creates conditions difficult to replicate in human coaching.
"The use of technology creates an absolute safe space for people to experiment in these modules," Bagshaw said. "It's very hard to recreate it in any human coaching environment."
Lawyers report feeling confident that interactions with the avatars remain private-an unexpected benefit of the program. The firm aims to prepare lawyers for difficult client and internal conversations before they happen in real situations.
Legal training companies are increasingly building simulation tools for lawyers. Legal transcription provider Verbit launched an AI-powered deposition simulator in February, while legal training provider AltaClaro also offers similar tools.
Perkins Coie is merging with Ashurst under a recently announced deal.
