SIGEP Asia 2026 and Restaurant Asia 2026 opened at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre in Singapore on 15 July, launching a three-day programme that places artificial intelligence, sustainability, and regional cooperation at the centre of the foodservice industry's response to labour shortages, rising costs, and shifting customer expectations. The co-located events drew government leaders, hospitality professionals, and technology providers from across Asia, with Senior Minister of State Low Yen Ling attending the opening ceremony.

AI programme launches as part of government-industry push

The opening ceremony marked the launch of the F&B AI and Digital Integration Programme, an initiative designed to help food and beverage businesses adopt AI and digital tools. The programme will provide advisory support to identify AI-powered solutions that can improve operational efficiency, customer engagement, and competitiveness. Its announcement reflects the event's evolution into a platform where governments, trade associations, and private businesses collaborate on practical industry solutions.

Industry leaders from IEG Asia, the Embassy of Italy in Singapore, the Restaurant Association of Singapore, and the Singapore Coffee Association were present alongside the minister. The initiative signals a coordinated effort to move AI adoption from discussion to implementation in Singapore's hospitality sector.

Regional associations and cross-border collaboration

Delegates from a wide range of foodservice and hospitality associations are using the exhibition to explore new partnerships and discuss market trends. Participating organisations include the Restaurant Association of Singapore, Hospitality Purchasing Association Singapore, Singapore Food Manufacturers' Association, International Food & Beverage Association, and Restaurant Association Vietnam, among others. Their presence gives exhibitors and operators opportunities to strengthen commercial ties throughout Asia's growing hospitality industry.

Competitions and professional excellence

The exhibition features an extensive programme of international culinary competitions. The Gelato World Cup - Asia Selection is drawing teams from eight countries, with Singapore entering as the reigning world champion and competing for qualification to the 2028 finals in Rimini, Italy. The inaugural Bakery World Cup Asia Selection 2026 - Bread in the City is running alongside the International Union of Bakers and Confectioners Congress, reinforcing Singapore's role as a regional bakery hub. Coffee professionals are competing in the Singapore National Coffee Championships 2026 across barista, latte art, brewers cup, and cup tasters disciplines.

Practical AI applications take the stage

Artificial intelligence remains a defining theme of Restaurant Asia 2026. The RAS Leadership Symposium 2026, titled The Intelligent Restaurant, examines how AI can move beyond theory into practical operations. Speakers from Ergotune, Atlas, Oddle, The Lo & Behold Group, OpenTable, and other technology companies are demonstrating real-world applications across marketing, workforce planning, revenue generation, and decision-making. The symposium, which explored this shift toward operational AI, reflects the broader industry interest in AI for Hospitality & Events.

The session concludes with an interactive workshop where participants design AI-powered restaurant agents capable of supporting day-to-day operations. The Technology Innovation Pavilion complements this by showing robotics, automation systems, AI-enabled business platforms, and food waste management technologies, focusing on how these tools address everyday operational challenges rather than simply displaying standalone products.

International pavilions and business networking

The exhibition floor includes country pavilions from Italy, Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam, along with specialised showcases such as Pizza Corner, the WorldChefs Lounge, and the Specialty Coffee Association Lounge. New additions this year include the Hotpot @ Halal Zone Pavilion, featuring Halal-certified products for one of Asia's fastest-growing dining segments, and the Fruit & Vegetable Asia Pavilion, which connects buyers and suppliers across the fresh produce supply chain.

Organisers placed strong emphasis on commercial opportunities through the Xcelerate Programme, which facilitates pre-arranged business meetings between exhibitors and qualified buyers. Networking sessions connect suppliers with delegations from airline catering and hotel associations, aiming to generate procurement partnerships and distribution agreements across the region.

Why this matters for hospitality and events professionals

The explicit focus on AI adoption at this year's SIGEP Asia and Restaurant Asia signals that the region's hospitality industry is moving past pilot projects and into operational deployment. The F&B AI and Digital Integration Programme, combined with the symposium's practical demonstrations, gives professionals a concrete framework for evaluating which AI tools can reduce costs, improve service, and support workforce planning. For event organisers and venue operators, the expanded international pavilions and structured networking programmes offer direct access to suppliers and partnership opportunities that can be built into future procurement strategies.
