Stepful Raises $55 Million to Expand AI-Powered Healthcare Training
Stepful, a healthcare workforce training platform, closed a $55 million Series C funding round led by Oak HC/FT. The company will use the capital to expand partnerships with hospitals and health systems, develop advanced degree programs, and strengthen its AI capabilities.
The platform has graduated more than 32,000 healthcare workers and partners with 35 health systems including Mount Sinai, Ochsner, and Providence. Stepful offers employer-sponsored, debt-free training pathways in roles like nursing, respiratory therapy, and medical imaging.
How the Platform Works
Stepful replaces manual training processes with an AI system that handles instruction, simulation, assessment, and talent planning. Students train while maintaining employment, avoiding student debt and the time away from work that traditional programs require.
The company was founded by Carl Madi, Tressia Hobeika, and Edoardo Serra. Investors in the round included Foresite Capital, Hearst Ventures, the Citi Impact Fund, and existing backers such as Y Combinator and Intermountain Health.
What's Next
Stepful plans to launch advanced degree programs in nursing, respiratory therapy, and imaging. The company will also deepen relationships with existing health system partners and expand its AI capabilities.
Vig Chandramouli, a partner at Oak HC/FT, said Stepful is "the only company we have seen that combines online education with a sophisticated AI engine to solve the talent supply problem at scale."
Healthcare organizations face persistent staffing shortages. Stepful's approach addresses this by developing workers from within existing healthcare systems rather than relying on contract staffing.
