Synology Rolls Out AI-Powered Storage Platform and New Hardware at Computex

Synology has released its next-generation DiskStation Manager operating system and expanded its data protection and surveillance product lines, the Taiwanese storage vendor announced at Computex 2026. The updates add AI inference capabilities, automated workflow orchestration, and hybrid cloud features across its enterprise and consumer product ranges.

DSM Platform Gains AI and Automation Tools

The new DSM supports GPU-equipped NAS devices and AI appliances, allowing organisations to run AI inference on-premises without sending data to external cloud services. This addresses a core concern for managers overseeing data governance and compliance.

A new DSM Agent feature automates routine infrastructure management tasks across systems. The Cluster Manager tool consolidates multiple Synology systems under a single interface, handling workload migration, quality of service controls, and protection policies across distributed deployments.

For organisations managing multiple sites, the Active Insight Mass Deployment capability enables rapid provisioning without individual system configuration. A redesigned Log Centre adds monitoring and compliance tracking features.

Data Protection Expands to Cloud and Virtualisation

ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 now protects workloads across AWS EC2, Azure VM, Proxmox, Nutanix AHV, and Google Workspace. The platform includes AI-powered anomaly and malware detection to flag threats before they compromise data.

Synology introduced the DP5200 hardware appliance alongside the software release. The new device expands deployment options for enterprises with mixed infrastructure environments.

Surveillance Gets Physical Access Control and Analytics

Synology added access control hardware-the AC100 door controller and AR Series readers-to its surveillance ecosystem. New DC Series dome cameras and Deep Video Analytics appliances with semantic search and person re-identification tracking round out the hardware updates.

A new Surveillance365 service offers video surveillance as a service, blending cloud-based and on-premises management for organisations with remote or multi-site security operations.

Office Suite Adds Communication Tools

ChatPlus and Meet bring enterprise messaging and video conferencing to Synology Office Suite. Both tools include AI-powered transcription and translation, with all data processed and stored on-premises rather than routed through third-party services.

Consumer Products Expand Storage and Search

Synology expanded its BeeStation product line with additional storage capacity options and added home camera integration to BeeStation Plus. The company also released Synology Deep Search, an AI-powered local search tool for macOS and Windows that processes queries locally rather than uploading files to cloud services.

For managers evaluating infrastructure automation and data governance solutions, these updates reflect a shift toward on-premises AI processing and centralised management across hybrid environments. More details are available on Synology's website.
