UNU AI for SDGs β€” Global Youth AI Future Innovation Competition 2025

The UNU Global AI Network invites young innovators worldwide to participate in the UNU AI for SDGs β€” Global Youth AI Future Innovation Competition 2025. This international competition focuses on using artificial intelligence (AI) to tackle sustainable development challenges and promote social innovation and youth development.

2025 Theme and Tracks

The inaugural edition centers on AI for the Environment: Ecological Environment and Green Transition Challenges. Participants can submit projects under these specific tracks:

  • Climate Change Adaptation
  • Environmental Protection and Conservation
  • Clean Energy
  • AI for Less Developed Countries

Submissions should present innovative AI solutions with a high Technology Readiness Level (TRL), suitable for commercialization, particularly in China.

What Winners Receive

Winning teams will benefit from a comprehensive support package, including financial aid, industry connections, investment matchmaking, and international exposure. Beyond monetary awards, winners will have the chance to pilot their solutions in China, enabling practical application and market entry. Additionally, a special Macau Prize will honor outstanding entries from Macau, highlighting the region’s commitment to youth-driven social innovation.

Who Can Apply?

The competition welcomes companies, organizations, groups, and individuals globally, without restrictions on background or nationality. Projects must have achieved at least Technology Readiness Level 6, meaning they have moved beyond the laboratory phase to real-world validation and are close to commercialization. For projects originating from established enterprises, the company must be less than 10 years old.

Applications and supporting documents must be submitted in English, and the evaluation process will also be conducted in English.

Selection Process

A jury of distinguished academics, industry experts, and institutional investors from global institutions will evaluate the entries, ensuring a fair and knowledgeable selection process.
