WAN-IFRA, the World Association of News Publishers, appointed media innovation executive Ezra Eeman as its director of AI in Media, effective October 1, 2026. The appointment expands the organization's leadership as it increases support for publishers dealing with the fast adoption of artificial intelligence across journalism and digital media.
Eeman joins from Dutch public broadcaster NPO, where he served as director of strategy and innovation for three years. He previously advised WAN-IFRA on its AI initiatives starting in late 2024 and has contributed to the association's conferences and executive programs.
Eeman's role and WAN-IFRA's AI expansion
In his new position, Eeman will lead WAN-IFRA's AI strategy and oversee programs to help publishers implement AI responsibly. His responsibilities include executive education, industry research and benchmarking, advisory services, strategic partnerships, and the creation of new initiatives supporting AI adoption globally. The appointment comes as news organizations increasingly incorporate AI into reporting, content production, audience engagement, and business operations.

WAN-IFRA's network spans 60 national association members representing over 20,000 publications in more than 120 countries. The organization provides research and strategic support that now encompasses AI for PR & Communications as news publishers increasingly adopt AI-driven tools for audience engagement and content distribution.
