AI agent for geologists

Field Trip Permit and Gear Readiness Agent

Teams leave with the right permits, calibrated instruments and complete gear every time.

Field Trip Permit and Gear Readiness Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

The team drives four hours to the site and finds the sampling permit has expired or the pH meter was last calibrated a year ago. This agent checks the trip plan as soon as it is made. It compares permits, gear lists and calibration dates against what the trip needs: site permits, sampling licenses, vehicle booking, safety equipment, instruments and consumables. It flags gaps and chases owners with short requests. It rechecks daily until departure and shows the lead a clear red, amber, green list. You approve departure. Edge case: a permit valid on the first day but expiring mid-trip is flagged as a gap for the days after expiry.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

Each need on the trip plan must have proof on file: a valid permit through the last trip day, an in-date calibration, an item in stock. Missing proof is a gap.

  • Permit expires before the last trip day: red
  • Calibration older than the allowed interval: red until recalibrated
  • Item amber at 48 hours before departure: escalate to the lead
  • Consumable below the trip need by 20 percent: order or substitute

Make it yours

Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.

  • Items on the needs list
  • Calibration intervals by instrument
  • Escalation window in hours (default 48)
  • Trip types
  • Permit contacts

What keeps you in control

It always asks you first

  • Requests to owners
  • Departure

Hard limits

  • Never apply for permits or order gear without approval
  • Never mark an item green without proof

It stops when

  • Done: all items green and departure approved
  • Stop: permit cannot be obtained, trip postponed

An example run

What happensFor a 12 to 16 June trip, the agent found the sampling permit expiring 14 June and the conductivity meter calibration 5 days past due. It marked both red and drafted requests. By 10 June the meter was calibrated, but the permit renewal was pending, so the check failed. The agent escalated, the renewal arrived 11 June, and the lead approved departure.
