AI agent for physicians
Mood Stabilizer Lab Monitoring Agent
Keep every patient's monitoring labs on schedule and acted on.
What it does
Medicines such as lithium and valproate need regular blood tests, and a missed test can hide a toxic level. This agent tracks each patient's lab schedule. When a lab is due, it drafts the lab order for approval and sends the patient a reminder. It tracks whether the test was done and reads the result. If a result is abnormal, it checks the dose history, recent illness and other medicines, drafts options for the psychiatrist, and rechecks the next result after a change. The psychiatrist approves every order and decision. Edge case: the level was drawn right after the dose, not at the right interval, so the agent flags the timing before asking for action.
How it works
Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.
Read the steps as a list
- Lab due date arrives
- Find patients due or overdue for labs
- Draft the lab order and patient reminder
- Psychiatrist approves the orderThe agent waits here for your OK.
- Send the reminder and track the draw
- Was the lab done within 7 days of the due date?If not: send a second reminder and tell staff to call. Back to step 4.
- Read the result
- Is the result in range and drawn at the right timing? If not: check dose history and illness, then draft options for the psychiatrist. Back to step 7.
- Psychiatrist approves the decisionThe agent waits here for your OK.
- Set the next lab date and recheck after any dose change
- Lab record updated
How it decides
A lab is overdue 7 days after its due date. An abnormal result triggers a dose history check and drafts options.
- Mark overdue after 7 days
- Check draw timing for lithium levels (about 12 hours after the dose)
- Send abnormal results to the psychiatrist the same day
- Order a repeat lab after any dose change
