About QuietHint®
QuietHint® is a Mac-based meeting assistant that transcribes calls locally on the device and displays short reply suggestions in an overlay while a question is still being asked. No bot joins the meeting, and audio never leaves the machine-speech is processed using Whisper on the Mac, with the user's own words kept separate from others'. It works with any call app and uses the user's own Anthropic API key to generate hints.
Review
QuietHint® takes a different approach from most AI notetakers by keeping everything on the Mac. There's no server-side transcription, no bot in the call, and the tool doesn't store conversation audio. What you get is a small overlay that surfaces a suggested reply in real time-before you've finished hearing the question.
Key Features
- On-device transcription via Whisper that separates your speech from other participants' by capturing macOS system audio and your mic independently.
- A live overlay that displays a short hint during the call, visible only to you. Hints appear automatically or can be triggered with ⌘↩.
- Works across Zoom, Teams, Meet, Webex, and speakerphone calls without per-app integration-it captures system audio directly.
- Uses your own Anthropic API key, so conversation data for hint generation stays within your existing Anthropic account.
- A credit-based option is in development (not yet released) that lets users top up once and run hints on QuietHint's key, removing the need to create an API key. The first 10 questions will be free.
Pricing and Value
QuietHint® costs $9/month for the app with unlimited suggestions when using your own Anthropic key. Anthropic API usage is billed separately through your own account. A credit-based model is planned for a future release-users will prepay and hints will run on QuietHint's key, with the first 10 questions free. The app is free to try on Apple silicon Macs.
Pros
- Audio never leaves the device-transcription happens locally, and no recording is stored on external servers.
- Hints appear during the conversation, not in a post-meeting summary, which can help with real-time responses.
- Compatible with any call app since it captures system audio rather than relying on individual integrations.
- The overlay is unobtrusive and only visible to the user running the app.
- Free trial available on Apple silicon, with no API key required to start.
Cons
- Hints require an active internet connection and Anthropic API calls-transcription is local, but the suggestion engine is not yet fully on-device.
- Post-meeting notes are not currently available; the maker describes them as "still cooking."
- Not well suited for users who need a full meeting transcript stored in the cloud for later search or team sharing-QuietHint® deliberately avoids server-side storage.
QuietHint® fits situations where real-time prompting matters more than archival notes, and where keeping audio strictly on-device is a hard requirement. It's worth a look for Mac users who already have an Anthropic key and want hints during calls without a bot joining. Those who rely on cloud-stored transcripts or automated follow-up task capture will find those capabilities absent in the current release.
